Happy 2012! It’s that time of year where well-intentioned New Year’s resolutions are put to the test. When we asked our staff what their resolutions are, topics range from diet, to exercise to attitude. Like the resolutions of people everywhere, they all share one common denominator– success clearly begins in the mind. So here are quotations from a few successful minds to keep your motivation going strong.
“I think in terms of the day’s resolutions, not the year’s.”
– Henry Moore
Starting a goal on the first of the year is a great starting point for those who feel the need for a clean slate, but remember that committing to a healthy habit is a decision that must be made daily. If you shared your resolution at a New Years party, chances are, you said it with a smile. That is the same way you should feel when you remind yourself of your intentions every single day. Be excited about your choices.
“If you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right.”
– Henry Ford
Set a realistic resolution. You know in your heart what you are truly capable of so don’t sabotage your progress by setting the bar out of reach. We all know it’s great to challenge yourself, but setting yourself up to fail can leave you worse off than when you started.
“Cheers to the New Year and another chance for us to get it right.”
– Oprah Winfrey
Since the day you are born your life has been a work in progress. Keep your eyes on the horizon. If you slip up, remember that every day is another chance to make it better. No need to abandon your goals entirely – if anything, you should watch out for a setback the same way you would a pothole. Don’t let it keep you from where you are going, for it will soon behind you.
“The mind, when housed within a healthful body, is a possesses a glorious sense of power.”
– Joseph Pilates
Of course, we need to finish with a few words from our favorite mentor. Whether you are planning menus at the grocery store or perfecting your Pilates form, remember that you are the product of your decisions. When your mind works with your body, and not against it, you are armed with a pretty amazing machine.
Stay strong everybody! How are you keeping your head in the game?
