Infrared Sauna Offers Healing Experience at The Lift

Posted on March 26, 2014

Improving your health can mean taking a lot of different steps — adding an exercise routine, boosting the amounts of fruits or veggies your eating or passing on that piece of cake — but have you ever thought about adding regular visits to a sauna as a way to reach a healthier you?

We’re not just talking any sauna — but an Infrared Sauna like the one at The Lift Pilates Studio in Fox Point.

Infrared Sauna, Detox, Improve Circulation

Infrared Sauna at The Lift Pilates Studio in Fox Point.

An Infrared Sauna works different than a traditional sauna, heating you up from the inside out — raising your core temperature. It can reach up to 167 degrees, though users don’t start off at that level of heat. Benefits of using an Infrared sauna include: improved circulation; lowered blood pressure; pain relief; detoxification; weight loss — at a high enough temperature, you can burn up to 600 calories in 40 minutes — skin purification; wound healing and cell health.

Edie Radtke, a client at The Lift, first heard of Infrared Saunas from her chiropractor, who recommended she use the sauna to help with joint and muscle pain. Her daughter, diagnosed as celiac not too long ago, also uses the Infrared Sauna after a recommendation from her doctor as a way to deal with the disease.

“I really enjoy coming for the (Infrared) Sauna because I feel as though I’m getting a way to cleanse from the inside out, because of the way the Infrared Sauna heats you,” Edie said. “It’s detoxifying without having to do a 3-week cleanse. I come in and in a half-hour, 45 minutes — I feel like I’ve done a lot for detoxifying my body and cleaning from the inside out.”

The Lift uses a Sunlighten Infrared Sauna, with near, mid and far infrared health benefits. The Infrared Sauna also combines sound and light therapy for added benefits to its users.

Scientific studies using Sunlighten’s Infrared Saunas have also proven they increase flexibility while performing stretches inside the sauna, making its use a perfect compliment to Pilates and other classes at The Lift. This can also help decrease an athlete’s chance for injury, Sunlighten’s website explains.

“At first its really relaxing and then at the end, you really are heating up. But, then you take a shower – and … the energy, I just, I feel better the rest of the day,” Edie said. “My energy levels lift and I feel really buoyant. I love it after I’m finished with it, for the benefits and the effects as well.”
